Coffee Journal Privacy Policy

Coffee Journal by Two States Coffee · Effective 9 October 2026

In short: Coffee Journal keeps your journal on your phone. We don't collect, receive, sell or share your data. There's no account, ads or analytics. The only online features are optional Google Maps street maps and café search. They stay off unless you turn them on, and the app tells you exactly what they send.

Who we are

Coffee Journal ("the app") is published by Two States Coffee ("we", "us"). Contact: kaizadmarolia@gmail.com.

What the app stores, and where

Everything you enter is stored only in the app's private storage on your device. This includes:

  • coffee entries, ratings, tasting notes and tags
  • beans, roasters, cafés and recipes
  • photos you take or choose
  • the times you record

We never receive this information. Your journal, photos and notes are never uploaded by the app.

Camera and photos

  • Camera: used only when you choose to take a photo of a coffee or scan a coffee bag or menu. Android asks your permission first, and you can decline.
  • Photos you choose: chosen with Android's photo picker. The app sees only the photos you pick, and makes a private copy so your entry keeps it.
  • Label scanning: text recognition runs entirely on your device, using Google ML Kit's on-device model. Images are not uploaded.

Location

The app uses your device's location only when you tap Cafés near me (with Google features turned on). Android asks your permission first. Your location is sent to Google once to find nearby cafés, and it is never stored, tracked or used in the background. Café pins on your maps are only the places you save.

Optional Google Maps and café search

If you turn on Google features (you're asked first, and can turn them off in Settings → Maps & integrations), the app uses Google Maps and Google Places. Google then receives:

  • the text you type into café search
  • the map area you view on street maps
  • your location, only when you tap Cafés near me
  • technical data that Google's services need to work, such as your IP address

When you pick a café, its name, address, map position and Google Place ID are saved in your journal on your phone. Google processes this data under its own Privacy Policy and the Google Maps Platform terms. With Google features off, the app makes no network requests at all.

Backups and exports

You can export your journal as CSV, JSON or a full backup file. This happens only when you ask, and the file goes where you choose: a folder, cloud drive, or app you share it with. Files you export are then handled by those services under their own privacy terms. Android's automatic cloud backup is turned off for this app, so your journal is not copied to the cloud without your action.

Third parties

The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking. It includes Google ML Kit for on-device text recognition, which runs without sending images anywhere. When optional Google features are turned on, Google's software in the app (Maps, Places and ML Kit) may also send Google basic diagnostic and usage information.

Your choices and deleting your data

You can edit or delete any entry in the app, remove the sample journal in one tap, or uninstall the app to delete everything it stored on your device. Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Children

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
